Gear Coupling

Before we get into the details of gear coupling, we need to first understand what coupling is. Coupling
is an arrangement or a device where two shafts are connected together at their ends to transmit power.
There are basically two types of coupling – Mechanical coupling and Material Flexing. Gear coupling
is a device that transmit torque within two shafts that are maintained in non-linear position. In gear
coupling there are two flexible joints and one joint is fixed with one shaft and then they are connected
with a spindle or another shaft or third shaft.

In simple terms gear couplings fall in the category of basically belong to the category of flexible
couplings. Therefore, gear coupling are capable of and used for transmitting very high torques that is
generated by the engines are transferred through the shaft. The whole mechanism of the gear
engineering is depending of the advantages and utilisation of gear coupling. Actually, gear coupling is
an completely assembled gear.

and Bush Couplings, Gear Flex Couplings, Tyre Flex Couplings, Fluid Couplings, Sleeve Flex
Couplings, Rigid Couplings. While deciding on the type of gear coupling to be used there are some
factors that need to be kept in mind.

 The area of application of the power through the gear coupling is the most crucial factor that
needs to be considered for selecting the right type of coupling.
 The intensity, force, speed and power that is to be transmitted through the gear coupling is
another factor that are crucial for selection of the type of gear coupling.
 Lastly the complexity in connectivity and the installation process is also important for
deciding the right type of gear coupling.

If the right type of gear coupling can be selected and properly installed the production time and cost
can be reduced to a significant manner. So, it is very important that you select the right type of gear
